We discovered, upon stripping and sanding this instrument, that a previous owner had saturated it to the core wood with a particular liquid furniture polish. This caused numerous problems above and beyond the normal ones encountered in the refinishing of a piano. We Ebonized the case components instead of going back to the original Mahogany finish, as the owner wished.
