Restoration of a Boardman & Gray Upright Piano Serial Number 67762, Circa 1903 |
|
Boardman & Gray Piano Company was founded by William G. Boardman of Albany, New York, in the year 1834. James A. Gray joined the company in 1835, or a few years later. Boardman & Gray also made the Stuart piano. The company went out of business in 1926. This particular piano is a good example of an instrument that had been "very mistreated" during its lifetime. The instrument is severely damaged and distressed, and will require much work before restoration is complete. The toe blocks and legs have actually been sawed off. Fortunately, the pieces had been kept so that the entire assembly could be re-created. |
